So my blog posts are going to be completely out of order and irregular while I'm in America and I've just come to the realize that!
This weekend I hopped on a plane to Nashville for Lucie's Birthday. It's a place I've most wanted to visit since I was about 16 and I'm so glad I did because I had the BEST weekend and officially have a new favorite city!!!!!
We arrived on friday evening and went straight to Nashville Downtown Hostel where we were staying. It was really cool and had a great atmosphere with a big common room and boards of things to do, the actual rooms themselves were fine once we worked out how to turn on the lights. We dumped our bags and went to explore and find some food. the hostel was a 5 second walk from Broadway which is the main street and it was so cool, there was music coming out of every bar, cowboy boots shops and lots of people!
We had walked up and down taking in the sights, had dinner and talked a lot, because being 2500 miles away from your best friend means a lot to catch up on (even if we still speak everyday).
When I'm on a short weekend trip I don't really believe in sleep because I want to make sure I make the most of where I am. This is something Lucie strongly disagrees with (the sleep part) so I let her sleep in until the grand old time of 8:30 which was 6:30 (her usual time) because it was her BIRTHDAY!!! I gave her some awesome presents (if I do say so myself) before we got up and made our way to get some breakfast. We asked the hostel for recommendations and they directed us to 417 Union street. We wern't particularly adventurous because chicken or steak and eggs didn't really take our fancy but we did try grits which was interesting.
Then we went to the Country Music Hall of Fame which was a highlight of the whole weekend. We were in there for almost 3 hours looking at all the different areas. I mean who wouldn't be excited seeing clothes Dolly Parton had worn! There was also an awesome interactive section where you had to complete various activities to become 'country certified' and obviously we did every single one to be told this, which included recording us singing and creating album covers with our faces on. It was super fun because we never like to act our age.
The rest of the day was spent walking around, taking in the sights, being astounded at the price of cowboy boots, trying on hats when we were not supposed to and having fun and being silly!
We went back the hostel got changed and headed out for dinner. Being under 21 in Nashville is a bit of a bummer because most of the bars/restaurants which all have amazing music are 21+. We weren't particularly smart and didn't think to book somewhere to eat and being a saturday everywhere was super busy! We eventually found this pretty fancy place with only an hour wait (which was short compared to most). It was called The Southern Steak and Oyster and fit the bill for a birthday meal. We sat outside so ate dinner in our coats but didn't care because we were so hungry. Lucie tried her first Oysters and had some extremely nice wine, which of course I never even attempted to try being under age because I don't even like wine (yeah right!).
The next morning we got up early and walked to church. It was really nice weather and we walked across the bridge seeing some amazing views. We got given a ride when we were almost there by a man in a golf cart. The Church was, as Lucie described, 'like going to a concert at Wembley' and was an amazing experience. I was so grateful to Lucie for coming with me because its not really her kind of thing, but there was a drum kit so she was happy.
We walked back into the city to gorgeous sunshine and sat by the river and talked for about an hour before heading to get some brunch at a place we were recommended called The Listening Room. We sat in the sunshine and had unlimited mimosas and yummy food.
We then went an explored the more historical areas took some photos and enjoyed the amazing weather.
We got some ice cream and then went back to the hotel and got changed for dinner at BB Kings which was really nice and had a good band playing while we ate. The Singer was particularly enthusiastic about the fact we were from England and gave us his card to tell everyone at home about them. I lost the card and that explains that how I felt, haha! It was quite late once we finished dinner so we walked along Broadway one last time before going back to the hostel where we packed and played some pool.
I had the most amazing time and would recommend Nashville to everyone. There is so much life and culture in the city and I wish we'd had longer to explore. I couldn't have had a better weekend with a better person!!!!
This is kind of thing is why we're friends.
So basically go to Nashville!
XOXO
