I rushed, could I get anymore American!
For those who don't know, rush/recruitment is the process you go through to join a sorority. This is going to be a super gushy post, but if I hadn't gone through the process I wouldn't have found my American home.
Sorority recruitment is unlike anything I ever expected or imagined. It's super fun, stressful, emotional but totally worth it. It was just under a week long as you go through a series of rounds. You're put into a group, with other potential new members or 'PNMs' and looked after and helped by Gamma Chis. These girls have disassociated themselves from their sorority to give unbiased support (it's pretty hardcore, they deactivate all social media). My Gamma Chis were amazing and some of the girls I met in my group will be friends for life.
Days 1 and 2
Philanthropy Round
You go around different rooms meeting all the different sororities, and learning about their chapter's philanthropy.
For these two days we just wore our recruitment T-shirts or something teal and shorts.
After this we ranked our choices. Sorority recruitment works on mutual selection, so basically we ranked them and they ranked us. The computer does something and matches it up.
Days 3 and 4
Sisterhood
These rounds, you visit your matched sororities and learn more about their chapter and sisterhood. I love the passion the girls I spoke to had about their sorority. It was a bit more dressy; sundresses and wedges were pretty much the uniform and everyone looked really pretty (think 'off to the races').
I wore my new dress from a little boutique in Salem MA, a H & M Necklace and rocked some Primark £2.50 sandals!
Day 5
Preference Round
This is the most intense round. You meet with a maximum of three sororities and get an insight into their rituals. I felt so blessed that the sororities that invited me back let me see some of the rituals that are so special to them. This was much more formal and I was struggling with my one suitcases-sized wardrobe, so I ended up borrowing my outfit.
The girls from my Gamma Chi group were so amazing, I love that we all got excited for each other when we heard who we were going back to even though most of the time it was completely different places.
BID DAY
It didn't start until 5:30p.m., and it made sitting through class torturous.
I never realized quite how much I wanted this.
When I opened my bid, I was so excited to be asked to become a member of my number one choice throughout the whole process! I could not be any happier to see Alpha Delta Pi on my card.
The rest of the day was crazy, I honestly feel so welcomed by this group of girls.
We all dressed up in our bid day theme of baseball and it was so lovely to see who else got an ADPi bid, especially when I realized that some of the best friends I had made here were now my sisters.
The week of recruitment meant I met so many amazing girls and I am so grateful. I now feel more at home in a place so far from my actual home.
The support, love and friendship that I've gained has made me so proud. I'm so happy that they chose me to be a sister and that I can call them sisters in return!
XOXO
